ASTORIA, April 7, 2020 - The City of Astoria is pleased to announce that Megan Leatherman has accepted the position of Community Development Director.
Leatherman has been the Director of Development Services for Ada County in Boise, ID since 2012 and has been with Ada County since 2006. At Ada County, in addition to overseeing the department, she also administered the Planning and Zoning Commission and Historic Preservation Council.
She says her team of employees helped to shape the fabric of the community by creating plans hand-in-hand with community members and County leadership, which will be beneficial experience working in Astoria.
“I am thrilled to begin work in Astoria and call it my new home,” says Leatherman. “I still have a lot to learn, but I can tell from Astoria's deep history, character, location, and spirit of the community that we can achieve whatever we want to together.”
Leatherman holds a Master’s degree in City & Regional Planning from The Ohio State University and has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Pre-Law from Ohio University. She began her Idaho planning work at a small planning firm in Meridian as a Land Use Planner.
She was awarded the Idaho Business Review Accomplished Under 40 Award in 2014 and the Women of the Year award in 2019.
“I am so pleased to have Megan join the City of Astoria team!” says City Manager Brett Estes. “We have a hardworking Community Development Department staff and I know that together they will continue to do great things serving the citizens of Astoria.”
Leatherman will start in Astoria mid to late May.
