ASTORIA, OR, December 8 – The Astoria Parks, Recreation and Community Foundation has been awarded a $15,000 Community Grant from the Oregon Community Foundation for use toward the Friends of McClure Park Project.
APRCF is partnered with the Friends of McClure Park (FRIENDS) in an effort to maintain and improve McClure Park. FRIENDS coordinated with the City engineering department and independent professionals to create a project plan that supports a natural park concept while preserving the National Historic designation of the neighborhood. The project includes the purchase and installation of a 30-foot hillside slide as the park center piece, a kids’ ball park, soccer nets, improved swing sets, raised tree deck, tree cookie sets, tree post walks and log balance walks. The project also includes safety fencing.
The grant money, which was awarded in late-November, will specifically go toward the purchase and installation of the hillside slide. An additional $12,000 will be raised for the completion of the project which is anticipated by July 31, 2016.
The mission of Astoria Parks, Recreation and Community Foundation (APRCF), includes enhancing the recreational health and enrichment of our community and is coupled with a vision statement of creating partnerships, charitable opportunities, and funding for community, parks, open spaces, and recreational activities.
