ASTORIA AQUATIC CENTER TO REOPEN IN EARLY MARCH

Thu, Jan 21, 2021

On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, the Astoria City Council directed staff to begin working toward a limited reopening the Astoria Aquatic Center.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s tentative plan is to reopen to reserved, drop-in only service in early March, 2021. The anticipated schedule will feature 3 days per week opening for 8 hours per day and 1 day per week for 4 hours.  Hours of operation will be: Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday from 7:00am- 10:00am, 11:00am-1:00pm and 4:00pm- 7:00pm and Saturdays from 11:00am- 3:00pm.

To comply with Oregon Health Authority’s mandates and restrictions for aquatic center operations, the facility will be open at 25% capacity and the aquatic center will be utilizing a reservation system where patrons will have access to the facility in 45 minute increments at the top of each open hour. The facility will close for 15 minutes hourly to allow staff to fully sanitize all use areas.  Masks and a short health screening will be required to enter the facility and all health and safety measures will be in place to ensure staff and community safety. The Astoria Aquatic Center will only be open for operation when the county is classified at High Risk level or lower.

Terra Patterson, Aquatics Supervisor shared her eagerness to reopen: “We are very excited to begin working towards reopening the facility to the community and we will continue to be unwavering in our commitment to making safety our top priority. We are carefully considering this new facet to implementing safety protocols and our staff will diligently work to ensure the facility is clean and as safe as possible at all times.”
