Astoria Oregon – Astoria Public Works has closed Alameda Avenue between Kingston Street and Ilwaco Street due to a landslide caused by the recent heavy rains.
Wednesday morning, at 2:58 AM the Astoria Police, Astoria Fire Department and Medix were dispatched to 367 Alameda Avenue. The home had been pushed from its foundation and was resting across the sidewalk at the edge of the roadway. The home was found with significant damage. The occupants escaped the home without injury.
Police and fire personnel notified residents in the adjacent area regarding the situation.
The Red Cross has offered assistance to the residents of the home and the occupants of evacuated homes above the slide area, next door to the damaged home, and homes across the street from the slide area. Approximately eight people have been provided temporary shelter by the Red Cross.
Pacific Power turned off service to the affected home. Northwest Natural turned off service to an area of Alameda Avenue and natural gas was later restored to the neighborhood keeping service off to the home.
Wednesday morning, city staff started reviewing and documenting slide impacts in the area and evaluating impacts to public utilities. The City’s geological consultant will also be reviewing the site today. Alameda Avenue will remain closed to through traffic.
