CITY OF ASTORIA FACILITY CLOSURES EXTENDED

Thu, Mar 26, 2020

March 26, 2020 — The City of Astoria’s Park and Library facility closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have been extended past the originally planned date of March 31st and will be kept in place until further notice.

This closure extension applies to all Parks and Recreation facilities including: the Astoria Aquatic Center, the Astoria Recreation Center, Little Sprouts, Port of Play, playgrounds and sport courts.  The intent of these closures is to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 and assist with efforts to contain further impacts of the disease to our community.

City Hall will also extend its restriction of public access. Walk-in visitors are prohibited and admittance will be granted by appointment only.  The Public Safety Building can be accessed via the walk-up vestibule. It is preferred that business be conducted over the phone or through email as much as possible.

Due to the constantly changing nature of the situation, the City has determined that the best course of action is to extend all closures to the public of facilities past April 1st; leaving reopen dates open-ended at this time.  City staff are monitoring current conditions closely and are in regular contact with local, state, and federal health authorities in order to be of most service during this emergency.

As circumstances resolve and normal operational capacity is restored, the City will be taking incremental steps to restart services and continue regular offerings as feasible.  This may entail disruptions to the restoration of programs until staffing and budgetary capabilities are assessed.

All scheduled meetings of the City Council, Astoria Planning Commission, Historic Landmarks Commission and Design Review Commission will be streamed live for video and audio. Visit https://www.astoria.or.us/LIVE_STREAM.aspx for the links.

Patrons who require assistance may contact City Departments by phone or email for more information. The City also offers many services online at www.astoria.or.us.

Updates will be posted on the homepage of the City website under the COVID-19 tab as well as the Facebook pages of each Department.  Water bills, parking tickets, parking space reservations and renewals, and more may be paid for over the phone. Customers may also place payments in the drop box outside of the main entrance to City Hall.
