The Astoria Fire Department is responsible for fire suppression and emergency medical response, which is coordinated with the local ambulance service (Medix) for the City of Astoria. The department also contracts with the Tongue Point Job Corps Center, Coast Guard property at Tongue Point along with USCG cutters Alert and Steadfast to offer fire suppression and emergency medical services.
Staff consists of a Fire Chief, a Deputy Chief of Operations & Training, a Deputy Chief – Fire Marshal and Emergency Manager, nine career firefighters, three intern firefighters, volunteer firefighters and a department Administrative Assistant. Together the firefighters handle about 1500 calls per year (over 60% EMS).
The Astoria Fire Department is also home to "HazMat 11", the regional Hazardous Materials response team for the Office of State Fire Marshal which covers Clatsop and part of Columbia County. The department is also involved in emergency preparedness and the Maritime Fire Safety Association.

Astoria Fire Department operates under the administration of the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chiefs. We are a "combination" department comprised of 9 career firefighters, 3 intern firefighters and volunteer firefighters.
Together, the career and volunteer staff members handle approximately 1500 calls for service per year involving Structure Fires, Emergency Medical Calls, Motor Vehicle Crashes, Hazardous Materials incidents, Wildland Fires, Fire Alarms, and Public Assists.
