Roger and his wife Jan Mitchell began a hunt for their perfect place to live in the late 80s. After several trips up and down the West Coast they were convinced Astoria was their place and moved here from California in 1994. Roger served as executive director of the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce for ten years. Now semi-retired, he still does some long distance work for his dinner theater in California, which he opened in 1978. Prior to that, Roger worked in television and radio news as reporter, anchor and news director.
Roger has been continually involved in the community, volunteering with Coast Community Radio, Columbia River Estuary Action Team, Columbia-Pacific Common Sense, Columbia Riverkeeper, Astoria Warming Center, Lewis & Clark Bicentennial, Oregon Travel Information Council, Clatsop County Budget Committee, CREST, River Theater and Astor Street Opry Company. Roger has also brought in several performers to the Liberty Theatre and Performing Arts Center.
Roger grew up in Chicago and earned his degree in Speech and Journalism from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma.
