The Parks and Recreation Department oversees parks and recreation activities for the City. The City has six historic sites, one caretaker home, three community halls, one maritime memorial park, six general use parks, one senior center, one indoor aquatic center, five public restroom buildings, three tennis courts, eight playgrounds, ten ball fields, four basketball courts, one boat launch ramp/fishing dock, and seven miscellaneous locations, all of which are maintained by this department.
The department coordinates recreational sporting activities throughout the year, including softball, track meets, volleyball, and basketball. It also coordinates several classes and special events such as trips to the theater, Breakfast with Santa, an Easter egg hunt, and two Valentine's dances throughout the year.
The Parks & Recreation Department is comprised of the administration & recreation and the maintenance divisions. In addition, the Parks & Recreation Director manages the Ocean View Cemetery and the Astoria Aquatic Center. Full-time staff for this department consists of a director, a recreation supervisor, an administrative assistant, an aquatic center supervisor, aquatic center maintainer, a park maintenance supervisor and three park maintainers. Temporary employees are hired at various times throughout the year to help maintain the parks and recreation facilities.

The office is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Class registration can be taken during most open Astoria Recreation Center hours. Class registration can also be done on the Parks and Recreation website at
www.astoriaparks.com
